Creating the Squared Shape

The distinctive feature of this mullet haircut is the extra length and squared shape at the back, which is further enhanced by the taper. We approach the haircut by prioritizing the desired shapes and working down the list of priorities. We begin by sectioning off panel by panel, identifying the apex and parietal ridge. Once these areas are isolated, we start from the back.

Establishing the Profile Line

To create the desired shape, establish a profile line in the back and cut a squared silhouette vertically, over-directing each subsequent section into the previous one, following the roundness of the head. This method allows for extra length as we move outward from the center, compensating for the head’s natural roundness and creating a stronger squared shape. Triangular graduation is used to blend the sides, achieving a tighter look from the front and further emphasizing the squared back. Squared layers are then utilized on top.

Styling and Tapering

For styling, use WAX. by Amighetti grooming to slick back the curls on the sides and a diffuser to enhance and shape the curls. Finish with a taper using a two-finger spread, debulking up to the top of the C-cup area and blending with no guard, a 1 guard, and a 1.5 guard. Refine the blend with scissors using a picking motion. Razor the edges for a more defined, sharper look, completing the Curly Tapered Pushback.
